Skincare - My Mindful Routine

How long have you had a skincare routine? I have had one since my early 20s and it’s always been something that I have enjoyed and played in. I’ve done it all, 3 step routine, Japanese skincare, Korean 10 step and it’s been so fun. SkincareAddiction is my last stop on the internet before I fall asleep. IYKYK

My favourite thing to do is walk into a chemist and walk around the aisles, picking up bottles and reading the ingredients and going back and forth choosing what will go in my basket. Since the pandemic begun though I have dialed down my products and been more intentional with skincare rituals. Being stuck inside during lockdown meant that my morning and evening skincare routines in the bathroom with the door shut were my stolen moments to relax and take care of myself. One of the few things I could control when the world seemed to be spiraling.

Being intentional with my skincare for me has meant focusing my products and really keeping my routine simple and targeted. I’ve got really dry skin and my problem areas are ageing, dryness and dehydration. The changes to a more mindful routine have been.

INDULGENT RITUAL

I can count the number of times I have skipped my skincare routine. My routine sets me up for the day and helps me relax in the evening. I put so much value in it and treat it as me-time and an indulgent daily ritual.

STICKING TO THE SCIENCE

I have tried it all and I am now sticking to the science. A large amount of research as old as from 1943 has shown that Vitamin A/Retinoid is a a tested ingredient that slows down aging. Apart from Retinoids, Vitamin C is a star ingredient for keep skin healthy. Both Vitamin A and C in skincare promote production of collagen which keeps your skin plump. Vitamin A increases cell turnover meaning that it reveals newer cells and can help reduce hyperpigmentation.

I zoned down on these two ingredients and they are now staples in my routine. I have been using Tretinoin since my mid-20s and only stopped when I was pregnant. I have finally found the perfect and affordable Vitamin C serum.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE

My routine is simple.

Morning ; Cleanse ( with water), Hydrating Toner, Vitamin C Serum, Hyaluronic Serum, Moisturiser, Sunscreen

Evening ; Cleanser with a Gel Cleanser, Tretinoin/Retin A, Hydrating Toner, Moisturiser, Rosehip Oil

BEING KIND TO MYSELF

I am noticing a lot more fine lines around my eyes and two prominent lines on my forehead from all the squinting and scary Mum stares I give my children. I must admit I am struggling with seeing the ageing on my face and have done all my research on Botox and Fillers. I am being kind to myself by accepting my face and the life that lives within the lines.
